City of Jacksonville Recognizes Women Veterans

June 03, 2021
Women Veterans Recognition Week begins June 5th

The City of Jacksonville’s Military Affairs and Veterans Department joins Northeast Florida Women Veterans, Inc. to celebrate Women Veterans Recognition Week, now in its eighth year.

This observance, founded in 2013 by the Northeast Florida Women Veterans, Inc.’s CEO and Jacksonville native, Dee Quaranta, was created to celebrate the accomplishments of women veterans, especially the trailblazers who served during the WWII and Korean War eras. The week also brings community awareness to some of the challenges women veterans face after military service.

“Women veterans have played an integral part in protecting this country alongside their male counterparts, making immeasurable contributions to our nation,” said Mayor Curry. “I encourage all citizens to recognize the courage, honor, and dignity with which women have served, and continue to serve, in Jacksonville.”

Ceremonies and activities will take place throughout the week, including a display of uniforms in the City Hall Atrium. The week will close with a gala to honor the women who paved the way for benefits now received by women veterans and to recognize women veterans who are working tirelessly in their communities. Please visit forwomenvets.org for more information.
