City's Senior Centers Support Troops

The City of Jacksonville’s Adult Services Division, in partnership with Mission Harvest America, Inc., is sending care packages to troops in Afghanistan during the holidays.
Seniors from 19 senior centers have collected toiletries, snacks, phone calling cards, batteries, pens, stationery, crossword puzzles, books, sports and entertainment games, greeting cards and other miscellaneous items in appreciation of our military overseas. Collectively, more than 300 care packages will be distributed to soldiers by Christmas.
Wayne Windham, a member of the Maxville Senior Center echoes the sentiments of other participants when he says, “I’m honored to participate in this great effort. Seniors at the center and I had a wonderful time donating care packages to our men and women in the armed services and will continue doing so as long as we have men and women serving in war areas.”
The Adult Services Division provides a variety of senior activities and services at 19 community and senior centers including nutritious meals, transportation, respite care, homemaking assistance, and volunteer opportunities. Seniors from all walks of life attend the centers on a regular basis to remain active and engaged. The mission is to provide services that support successful aging and promote the realization of the individual’s greatest potential.
