Recycle Empty, Clean and Dry Plastic Bags and Wraps at Store Drop-Offs

April 24, 2019
Plastic bags are not recyclable in your curbside recycling cart!

Recyclable items should be placed loosely in your recycling cart, without a bag of any kind.
Although plastic bags and wraps are are often made of recyclable material, they can not be processed and separated from the rest of recycled materials at single-stream recycling facilities. These facilities use a variety of mechanical means to sift through the tons of materials that enter the sorting line. Because plastic bags and wraps are extremely pliable, they can get tangled up in the equipment, causing shutdowns and endangering the workers who have to remove them.

Instead of placing plastic bags and wraps in your cart, they should be recycled at store drop-off locations.

Flexible plastics made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) -- including grocery and produce bags, bread bags, Ziplock bags, dry cleaning bags, bubble wrap, and toilet paper and paper towel packaging -- can be recycled at select Publix, Winn Dixie, Target, Walmart, and Lowe's locations throughout the City of Jacksonville. Click here to find the dropoff location nearest you.
