Excessive Heat Warning Issued, Cooling Centers Open Today

National Weather Service Jacksonville has forecast dangerously hot temperatures and issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Duval County. Heat Indices, or ‘feels like” temperatures of 113°+ are forecast through Tuesday, August 8, 2023. Due to these dangerous temperatures, the City of Jacksonville Cooling Centers will be open from 12PM to 6PM.

The Cooling Centers will offer refuge from the dangerous temperatures we are experiencing and have water available to aid in hydration. If residents need a place to cool off today, they can visit one of the following cooling center locations:

University Park Library
3435 University Blvd N, 32277

Main Library
303 N Laura St, 32202

Charles Webb Wesconnett Regional Library

The Legends Center
5130 Soutel Dr, 32208

JTA is offering free bus fares on the routes to cooling centers starting just before noon. Residents should tell the bus driver that they are on their way to a Cooling Center.

*If a resident is bed ridden and without air conditioning at home, they should call 911 for support.
