More Than 100 Hiring Companies and Service Providers Expected
Job seekers from throughout the Jacksonville area can seek opportunities at the 2015 Citywide Job and Resource Fair at the Prime Osborn Convention Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, hosted by U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown and Mayor Alvin Brown. More than 100 companies and service providers are expected to attend.
“I’m honored to join Congresswoman Corrine Brown in hosting this important event to connect job seekers with employment opportunities in our community,” said Mayor Brown. “As a community, we must help local businesses create more jobs and expand job opportunities for everyone in Jacksonville. With this Citywide Job Fair, we’re putting people to work and supporting businesses that are investing in Jacksonville.”
“Even though the nation has begun to emerge from a difficult economic recession, our state still has a tremendous amount of hard working people either looking for work or searching for a better, full time position. That said, attendance at this year’s Job Fair is extraordinarily important for any job seeker, since it will provide them with a perfect opportunity to network and speak directly with prospective employers,” said Congresswoman Brown.
Last year, more than 14,000 people attended with more than 100 companies and service providers participating. This year, local employers including Fidelity Investments, Community First Credit Union, Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Brumos Automotives, Saft America, Everbank, Regions Bank, Lowe’s, JEA, Michaels Distribution will be on site with information about job opportunities. The event will also include a series of Job Readiness workshops that will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
More and more, companies are choosing to expand their operations in Jacksonville, creating new jobs and bringing new opportunities to people in our community. Duval County’s unemployment rate is down to 5.7 percent, compared to more than 11 percent in July 2011.
Attendees should bring copies of their resumes and wear business attire. For more information about participating in the 2015 Citywide Job and Resource Fair or readiness workshops, contact Ken Johnson at (904) 630-3680 or KenJohns@coj.net.
