The Community Conversation addressing Youth Violence on Feb. 11, 2016

Mayor focuses on public safety, block-by-block

February 12, 2016
Mayor Lenny Curry joined District 8 City Councilwoman Katrina Brown and representatives from JEA and the City’s Public Works Department yesterday to tour a neighborhood in the 32209 ZIP code. The group walked the streets and talked with residents to identify street lighting needs, overgrown trees and shrubs, blight conditions, and other challenges that may foster criminal activity.

The tour took place before the mayor’s first Community Conversation in a series focused on Public Safety, hosted at FSCJ North Campus. Moderator W.C. Gentry and panelists State Attorney Angela Corey, Sheriff Mike Williams, Superintendent Nikolai Vitti and Corrections Officer Deon Johnson discussed issues around the topic “Our Future: Addressing Youth Violence in our Community” and took questions from concerned citizens.

Improving public safety has remained one of Mayor Curry’s top priorities since taking office last July. With initiatives and programs like these and the Jax Journey, City officials and partner organizations are collaborating to identify and address areas of concern throughout the city to help improve local communities, restore neighborhood pride and promote public safety.
