Mayor Joins City Leaders in Panel Discussion on Easing Racial Tensions, Building Trust

In a conference room at the Hyatt hotel in downtown Jacksonville, Mayor Lenny Curry joined State Attorney Angela Corey, Sheriff Mike Williams and Edward Waters College President and former Sheriff Nat Glover, along with representatives from the Florida Bar Association, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Public Defender’s Office, for a panel discussion on easing racial tensions and building trust in the community. The event was hosted by the Jacksonville Bar Association, an organization for professionals in Jacksonville’s legal community.
In his remarks, Mayor Curry stressed that trust is earned by being open and honest with people, and by listening to their concerns and acting on them. The mayor has participated in many community walks across town, hearing citizens’ concerns about public safety and neighborhood investments. He also talked about his Community Conversations, where he is convening the public in civil discussions about key issues facing our city.
The next Community Conversation, to be held April 4 at WJCT, will focus on the topic “Our Health: Addressing Needs and Disparities in Communities.” The public is invited to attend and share their voice.
