May 31, 2011
Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton was joined by U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown, U.S. Rep. Ander Crenshaw, Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll and a host of state, city and military leaders Monday, May 30, at Jacksonville’s Memorial Day observance ceremony honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of the nation.
The ceremony, coordinated by the city’s Military Affairs, Veterans and Disabled Services Division, was open to the public and attended by families of many of the nation's heroes. It featured keynote remarks from Lt. Gov. Carroll followed by the presentation of wreaths to the families of the service members whose names were added to the Memorial Wall. The ceremony concluded with a stirring 21-rifle salute and "Taps."

The Navy Band Southeast - Sound of Freedom and Jacksonville Pipes and Drums performed patriotic tributes during the ceremony.
