New Members Identified for City Boards

Appointees to Serve Jacksonville Port Authority and Jacksonville Aviation Authority
 
Mayor Lenny Curry has identified three area leaders to serve as members on the Jacksonville Port Authority (JPA) and Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA) boards of directors. John D. Rood, chairman for The Vestcor Companies, Inc., has been appointed to the JPA. Availity CEO Russ Thomas and Demetree Brothers, Inc. President and CEO J. C. “Jay” Demetree, Jr. have been appointed to the JAA.
“These individuals are true visionaries,” said Mayor Curry. “Their professional backgrounds and successes as top leaders and founders demonstrate a level of innovation and spirit of excellence that will serve Jacksonville well.”
 
Founded in 1983 by John D. Rood, The Vestcor Companies, Inc., focuses on brokerage of multifamily properties, real estate investments, development and construction. His leadership has earned him numerous positions and recognitions including an appointment by President George W. Bush as United States Ambassador to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas where he served from 2004 - 2007. Other notable positions include service on the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Jacksonville Journey Committee (co-chairman), and Jacksonville University Public Policy Institute Board of Advisors.
 
Russ Thomas joined Availity in 2008 as president and chief operating officer. Under Thomas’ leadership, Availity is a leader in provider engagement and empowers healthcare professionals to improve outcomes. Prior to joining Availity, Thomas was CEO of Gold Standard. He currently serves on the board of directors for technology company Connecture, Inc., and nonprofit organization eHealth Initiative. He is also the chair of the United Way of Northeast Florida’s Campaign Cabinet.
 
J. C. “Jay” Demetree, Jr. has served as president and CEO for Demetree Brothers, Inc. since 1987 and president of Pentagon Properties, LLC since 1980. Demetree Brothers, Inc. is a privately-owned company engaged in real estate management, leasing, development and construction management. Demetree has served on the board of directors for the Jack and Betty Demetree Family Foundation, St. Vincent’s Hospital Foundation, Inc., Ronald McDonald House Charities Jacksonville, and others.
