Administration Takes Major Steps to Increase Diversity 

The 4^th Annual VyStar Emerald 5K/10K presented by JTC Running and 1st Place Sports is headed to the Northbank Riverwalk downtown on September 30, 2023. The 5K and 10K Run/Walk begin at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K/10K ride follows at 9 a.m. JTC running covers all race costs so that 100% of proceeds benefit Groundwork Jacksonville, the City’s nonprofit partner in building the Emerald Trail, and restoring McCoys Creek and Hogans Creek.

The City of Jacksonville’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, invites the public to an open house for feedback on both the redesign of James Weldon Johnson Park and the Parks Master Plan. 

National Weather Service Jacksonville has forecast dangerously hot temperatures and issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Duval County. Heat Indices, or ‘feels like” temperatures of 113°+ are forecast through Tuesday, August 8, 2023. Due to these dangerous temperatures, the City of Jacksonville Cooling Centers will be open from 12PM to 6PM.

The Excessive Heat Task Force, led by Mayor Deegan, Chief Health Officer Dr. Sunil Joshi, city agencies, and Community partners, has developed a plan to respond in the event of extreme heat in Jacksonville.  
 

Animal Care and Protective Services (ACPS) urgently needs dog adopters and fosters. The shelter is at critical capacity.
