Household Hazardous Waste & E-Waste Mobile Collection

The City of Jacksonville Solid Waste Division is hosting its 4th household hazardous waste and electronic waste mobile collection event of the year this weekend.
Duval County residents are encouraged to bring their household hazardous waste and e-waste to one of the five scheduled mobile collection events, held January through May, or to the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Facility located at 2675 Commonwealth Ave. The HHW Facility is open Tuesday through Saturday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Examples of e-waste include: televisions (limit three per customer), computer monitors and terminals, keyboards, printers, scanners, stereo equipment, VCRs, camcorders, DVDs, radios, desk or mobile phones, pagers, power tools, small kitchen and health and beauty appliances, etc.

E-waste is collected as part of the normal garbage collection service if left at the curb, however, once these items enter the waste stream with normal garbage they cannot be recycled and are disposed of in the landfill.

Examples of household hazardous waste include: paint, varnish, shellac, paint thinners and strippers, rechargeable, car or lead acid batteries, thermometers, thermostats, drain cleaners, pool chemicals, antifreeze, aerosol cans, fertilizer, pesticides, acids, gun powder, ammunition, fireworks, fluorescent bulbs and tubes, oil and oil filters, gasoline, etc.

Household hazardous waste cannot be collected curbside with regular trash.

The next and final HHW mobile collection event of 2013 is scheduled for Sat., May 11, at the Jacksonville Beach Public Works Department/Operations and Maintenance Facility parking lot, 1460 Shetter Ave,. Jacksonville Beach, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
