The City of Jacksonville and Keep Jacksonville Beautiful (KJB) will partner with the First Coast Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation, UNF Surfrider and Jacksonville Surf Training for a beach cleanup on June 23 from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. at 16th Avenue South in Jacksonville Beach.

The City of Jacksonville’s Developing Adults With Necessary Skills (DAWN) Program will host a ceremony to celebrate the graduation of two young women and seventeen young men who have completed State Department of Education requirements to earn their high school diploma. These students, while serving jail sentences, received concentrated GED instruction coupled with transitional counseling and vocational training.

The Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS), the City of Jacksonville’s Animal Care & Protective Services (ACPS) and First Coast No More Homeless Pets (FCNMHP) are offering a sneak peek at the Shelter Stars available for adoption during the ASPCA Rachel Ray $100K Challenge, a nationwide competition between shelters, in which JHS is a contender. Doggie Ambassadors will meet their adoring fans and will walk the red carpet in this special showcase.

The ceremony will be to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of the nation.

Mayor Alvin Brown will host Mayor Brown’s Interfaith Breakfast on May 20 at the Prime Osborn Convention Center. The breakfast, featuring Bishop T. D. Jakes of The Potter’s House of Dallas, will focus on the theme "Faith, Family and Friends." The event will explore ways to build community partnerships that will improve education and reduce crime. During the event, Mayor Brown will launch initiatives focusing on mentoring local youth, as well as crime prevention and intervention.

The session will be provided by Incepture, Inc., a leading staffing and managed solutions company in Jacksonville and a member of the City of Jacksonville/Jacksonville Military Veterans Coalition (JMVC) “Jobs for Vets” initiative.
