As a no-kill city, Jacksonville leads the nation with 1,165 dogs and cats finding homes in a single weekend. Mega Pet Adoption Events are a vital part of the effort to help dogs and cats in our city find loving, forever homes. If you are considering adopting a new pet, come out to the Jacksonville Fairgrounds on April 17-19. With over 1,000 pets available, all spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated, the perfect furry friend for you is surely waiting there!

College, Career and Trades Fair

The Mayor's Young Leaders Advisory Council will host a college, career, and trades fair at City Hall. Students and young adults between 16-21 years old will be able to meet with college recruiters, military recruiters, and employers to learn about career opportunities including construction trades, nursing, advanced manufacturing, information technology, hospitality training, nursing assistants, and business.

Helping more students attend and achieve success in college is the focus of Jacksonville’s third annual Community Education Summit, to be held March 6 at the Downtown Main Library.  Hosted by Mayor Alvin Brown, the summit will feature keynote speaker Dr. Freeman A. Hrabowski, III, president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, since 1992 and a national leader on promoting minority students' success in math and science.

Opening of the new Southbank Riverwalk

Mayor Alvin Brown, Council President Clay Yarborough, Councilman Don Redman and The Haskell Company will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the opening of the new and improved Southbank Riverwalk. In addition, announcements will be made regarding exciting new plans that will further enhance this Downtown centerpiece and its relationship with the St. Johns River.
