The Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women (MCSW) will host its first Women Up! networking forum at City Hall on Thursday, Oct. 10. Local women’s organizations and members of the community are invited and encouraged to participate.

Orlando Magic vs. New Orleans Pelicans

The NBA's Orlando Magic and the New Orleans Pelicans will kick off their 2013-14 season with a preseason game at Veterans Memorial Arena on Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. An interactive fan venue will be located outside the arena from 5 - 7 p.m.

Mega Animal Adoption Event

The City of Jacksonville’s Animal Care and Protective Services Department (ACPS), in partnership with First Coast No More Homeless Pets and the Jacksonville Humane Society, will host a Mega Adoption event this weekend at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds. More than 1,000 adoptable pets will be available to take home at a reduced fee of only $20, which includes spay/neuter costs, vaccines, microchips and the city licensing fee.

Mayor Alvin Brown and members of the City of Jacksonville Mayor’s Hispanic American Advisory Board will honor seven local community leaders at the inaugural Hispanic Leadership Award Ceremony, in recognition of “Es Mi Vida” (It’s My Life) Hispanic Heritage Month. The event honors individuals, nominated by their peers, who have significantly served the Jacksonville community in fields ranging from business to health. In addition to the award recipients, a military family of Hispanic heritage will be honored for their family’s two generations of military service and sacrifice.

2013 International Coastal Cleanup

The City of Jacksonville’s Keep Jacksonville Beautiful Commission invites residents to participate in the 2013 Florida Coastal Cleanup event. This event, which will provide volunteers with an opportunity to help beautify local shorelines, is part of the Ocean Conservancy’s Annual International Coastal Cleanup (ICC).
