fencing at riverfront plaza

Construction at Riverfront Plaza

January 05, 2021
Riverfront Plaza is an open green space on the bank of the St. Johns River in the heart of Downtown. This space is managed by Jax Parks, the City of Jacksonville’s Parks and Recreation branch.
The City of Jacksonville is pleased to announce that the next phase of construction at Riverfront Plaza is underway. Haskell Company, the contractor for the project, has begun the installation of construction fencing at the site around the Plaza's perimeter. Portions of the fencing display project renderings. Construction work at the site of the former Jacksonville Landing began last summer with the closure and removal of a portion of Independent Drive to clear space for park amenities and to reroute Independent Drive to Hogan Street.

Work on the Riverwalk and bulkhead, as well as construction of a cafe and a children's playground, is on the way in the next phase.

The work on those portions of the Plaza is expected to be completed by mid-to-late 2025.

Newnan Street, Bay Street and Pearl Street pedestrian traffic will be rerouted. Way-finding signage redirecting foot traffic has also been installed.

“It is exciting to see continued progress being made at the Riverfront Plaza site,” says Mayor Donna Deegan. “I look forward to watching this vital project move forward over the coming months, and eagerly await the day it is ready for the citizens of Jacksonville to enjoy.”
