City To Host 2019 Homeless Veteran Stand Down

August 15, 2019
The annual Homeless Veterans Stand Down is being held October 10, 2019 – October 12, 2019. This three day event consists of a Job Fair Preparation Day, Veterans Job Fair, and Homeless Veterans Stand Down.
The City of Jacksonville Military Affairs and Veterans Department is preparing to receive the torch from the "keepers of the flame," the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans. Jacksonville has been entrusted with providing a place of sanctuary for Veterans who call the streets of Jacksonville home.

The "Stand Down" is a time in which combat regiments returning from the theater of war were placed in safety zones. During the Stand Down, troops could put down their weapons and concentrate on personal matters such as sending and receiving correspondence to family and friends and taking care of their personal hygiene. This time gave troops the chance to decompress and not worry about their personal safety.
