Matthew Whiddon is a Jacksonville native and graduated valedictorian from Fletcher High School in 2003.  Prior to joining the Office of General Counsel, Mr. Whiddon was a Partner at Cole, Scott & Kissane, P.A., where he handled matters in the areas of Tort, Insurance, Premises Liability, Professional Malpractice, Employment, Contract, HOA/Condo Law, Construction, Intellectual Property, and General Civil Defense. He also advised companies in the insurance and construction industries on issues of business formation, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance.  Before that, he worked at the law firm Eraclides Gelman practicing Civil Litigation and Workers’ Compensation.

Mr. Whiddon attended the University of Florida where he double majored in Physics and Political Science.  He obtained his Juris Doctorate from the Florida State University College of Law.  During law school, Mr. Whiddon advocated for abused, abandoned, and neglected children as a guardian ad litem in Tallahassee. Mr. Whiddon was introduced to the practice of law by former Atlantic Beach Mayor, Lyman T. Fletcher, Esq., for whose family law practice he worked during high school and law school. 

Mr. Whiddon is a member of the Florida Bar and the U.S. District Courts, Middle District and Northern District of Florida. He is also a licensed patent agent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
