Volunteers needed for the 26th Annual St. Johns River Cleanup

Volunteers are needed for the 26th Annual St. Johns River Celebration, Saturday, March 20, from 8 a.m. to noon (times vary according to cleanup site). Participants will help spruce up the city by collecting litter and debris from dozens of pre-selected riverfront and inland sites (sites are listed below). The City and Keep Jacksonville Beautiful are hosting the event in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation, Florida Inland Navigation District and Surfing’s Evolution & Preservation Foundation as part of the Florida Great American Cleanup, a statewide effort to protect the environment throughout the spring.

Jacksonville is joining major American cities in welcoming a Dockless Mobility Program to its Downtown. The City of Jacksonville (COJ) officially launched a one-year pilot program for e-scooters, e-bicycles and dockless bicycles. As of today, locals and visitors alike can rent and ride electric scooters Downtown via smartphone applications. Legislation for the program was introduced by Council Member Cumber and co-sponsored by Council Members White, Carlucci, Diamond, Gaffney, Priestly Jackson, Morgan, Bowman, Hazouri, Pittman, DeFoor, Freeman, Salem and Newby.

A make-up day will be offered to individuals who received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at Clanzel T. Brown Senior Center and missed their appointment for the second shot. Individuals must return to the site Monday, March 1, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.; an appointment is not necessary.

Clanzel T. Brown Opening to Administer Second Dose of Vaccine This Week

Individuals who received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at Clanzel T. Brown Senior Center may return to the site for their second shot this Friday and Saturday. Those who were given their first shot on Friday, Feb. 5, should return Friday, Feb. 26, while those whose first injection was on Saturday, Feb. 6, should return Saturday, Feb. 27. Individuals should arrive within the hour associated with the first letter of their last name. The time slots are as follows:

City Announces Plan for Rent and Utility Assistance Program to Support Households Impacted by the Pandemic

The City of Jacksonville announced plans to use a $28.9 million grant from the federal Emergency Rental Assistance Program to help Duval County residents affected by the pandemic. The funds will be available to citizens to cover up to 12 months of rent and utility payments with the option for an additional three months if determined necessary to ensure housing stability. Partnering agency, the United Way of Northeast Florida, will distribute $23.8 million for rental assistance. The City will process the applications and work in partnership with JEA to distribute the remaining $5 million to thousands of eligible customer accounts with past due utility balances. The City will determine eligibility based on the standards below.

Two City of Jacksonville Senior Centers to Reopen as COVID-19 Testing Sites

Beginning Monday, the Mandarin and Lane Wiley Senior Centers that were utilized for vaccine distribution will return to providing COVID-19 testing.
