All of us play a role in improving the safety of our roadways. Help us make Jacksonville a safer community by following these safety rules:

  • Devices Down. Heads Up. Minimize all distractions when traveling on roadways. Your life matters most.
  • One Click Does the Trick. Always wear your seatbelt. No excuses.
  • When in Doubt, Wait it Out. Never proceed if uncertain a driver sees you. Make eye contact.
  • Go the distance to save your life. Only cross the street at a corner or crosswalk. Every time.
  • Use your head. Always wear a helmet when riding a bicycle or motorcycle.
  • Be Seen. Walk or jog facing traffic. Wear bright or reflective clothing.
  • Every corner is a crosswalk. Drivers should slow down and yield to pedestrians at every intersection, whether it’s a marked or unmarked crosswalk.
  • Go with the flow. If you’re riding your bike on the street, ride on the right side of the street with the flow of traffic.
  • Share the road and stay alert! Drivers should pass bicyclists with at least 3 feet passing distance—it’s the law.
  • Be bright, use lights. When riding bikes at dusk, dawn or in the evening, be bright and use lights – and make sure your bike has reflectors as well.
  • Follow the rules. State law allows bicyclists to ride on the street obeying the same rules as motor vehicles, or on the sidewalk obeying the same rules as pedestrian.
