Garrett Dennis is a native of Jacksonville, Florida. He is a graduate of Jean Ribault Senior High School, Class of 1992. Garrett attended Florida A&M University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree. He later attended University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida and earned his Masters of Educational Leadership.
 
Garrett worked for Duval County Public Schools from 1997-2001 as science and math teacher. In 2001, he joined the Supervisor of Elections Office as an Educational Specialist under the John Stafford Administration and was later promoted to Director of Community Outreach under the Jerry Holland Administration. During his tenure at the Elections Office, Garrett was responsible for training more than 10,000 poll workers and registered over 55,000 students.
 
On March 24, 2015, Garrett was elected to the Jacksonville City Council, to represent the constituents of City Council District 9. For the 2015-2016 Council year, Garrett was chosen to serve as Chair of the Neighborhood Improvement and Community Enhancement Committee (NICE), also known as the N.I.C.E. Committee. For the 2016-2017 Council year, Garrett was selected to serve as Chair of the Rules Committee. Garrett was selected as the Chair of the Finance Committee for the 2017-2018 Council Year. He also serves on the Neighborhoods, Community Services, Public Health and Saftey Committee. He previously served as a member of the  Tourist Development Council and the Recreation, Community Development, Public Health and Safety Committee. 
 
In addition to serving on the Jacksonville City Council, Garrett is also the managing member of a local construction company.
 
Garrett and his lovely wife Latasha have been married for 17 years and have 2 beautiful, amazing children, Garrett and Samantha. They are members of Impact Church.
