Objective of the Symposium
Too often, community leaders focus on the issues of today, instead of clearly visioning the future. As an aid to seeing the path to the future, the City of Jacksonville’s Environmental Protection Board (EPB) and the University of North Florida Environmental Center partner to present the 2017 Environmental Symposium: "Acheiving and Empowering a Sustainable Community and Thriving Economy". The symposium brings together residents, government agencies, utilities and innovators in a forum designed to foster an atmosphere of cooperation in environmental achievement. In addition to opening, lunch and closing general sessions, there are breakout sessions on six topics of interest.
The keynote speaker for the symposium luncheon will be the Honorable Nancy Shaver, Mayor of St. Augustine, Florida. She will be sharing insights and the foundation of the importance of resiliency to local governments.
Background and Information
This symposium presents a unique opportunity for members of the community to interact with the regulatory agencies responsible for developing and implementing environmental policy. Attendees have an opportunity to better understand environmental goals for our community. The symposium provides valuable opportunities for communication and helps to further the goal of protecting our limited natural resources and improving the quality of life in Northeast Florida.

EPB Environmental Awards
The Environmental Protection Board (EPB) established an awards program in 1975 to honor outstanding environmental accomplishments, in several categories, above the actions required by law. Over the years individuals or organizations have been chosen for the Outstanding Environmental Achievement Award because of their innovation, commitment and expertise. The awards program also recognizes individuals who have long term commitment to the protection and preservation of the environment with two special awards – the Charles E. Bennett Champion of the Environment Award and the Christi P. Veleta Environmental Award. The EPB also partners with Duval County Public Schools to recognize faculty and staff that have excelled in the Green Champions Program with the EPB-DCPS Environmental Champion Award. These awards are annually presented during the symposium luncheon.
Symposium Registration
Registration will now remain open for the 2017 event through October 4th. Online registration is supported by the UNF Environmental Center.
What to do if you have already registered?
Recognizing that factors beyond our control caused the rescheduling of this event, we are making every attempt possible to accommodate all. For those who have registered already and the revised date works for you and you still want to attend, no action is necessary. We will hold all registration payments in place and your spot will be maintained. If, however, you are not able to attend on the rescheduled date and you would like to have your payment refunded, please send an email to let us know to do so. This may take a few days due to Hurricane Irma impacts.
