February has been declared American Heart Month by the American Heart Association. Throughout the observance, citizens are encouraged to adopt a healthier lifestyle by making more heart-healthy choices including increased physical activity and eating a healthy diet.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in this country, with one in every three deaths occurring due to heart disease and stroke.
As part of this observance, the City of Jacksonville encourages citizens to take advantage of the resources, tools and activities provided through Journey to ONE. Launched in 2016, Journey to ONE is a citywide health program that aims to provide, strengthen and bolster initiatives that improve personal and community health throughout Jacksonville.
