Today, Governor Rick Scott joined state and local officials to announce the kick-off of the I-95/I-295 North Interchange project in Duval County. The project will update the existing interchange to help improve safety and traffic flow for the Jacksonville community while also enhancing access to JAXPORT facilities. The State of Florida invested $103 million into the project.
Governor Scott said, “We are proud to be welcoming so many families and job creators to Florida, and we must do all we can to make sure our roadways are prepared for future growth. That is why I am proud to announce the kick-off of the I-95/I-295 North Interchange project today. This project will encourage continued economic growth in Northeast Florida and improve safety for the many residents, business owners and visitors who travel here each day. We will continue to make important investments in projects like the I-95/I-295 North Interchange to ensure Florida’s transportation system remains a national leader.”
The interchange serves as a hub connecting JAXPORT with Interstate 95, Downtown Jacksonville with the Jacksonville International Airport and tourists seeking to reach Central Florida. The traffic in the corridor is expected to increase significantly over the next two decades and the interchange improvements will alleviate traffic issues.
FDOT Secretary Jim Boxold said, “Governor Scott recognizes that strong economic growth can benefit from strategic investments in transportation infrastructure. His investments in this area and around the state continue to help support Florida families and businesses.”
The design and construction of the $177 million project has been funded with state and federal dollars. The project is expected to take three and a half years, with the reconfiguration complete in the summer of 2020.

Jacksonville is experiencing exciting growth and we are fully dedicated to making sure our roadways remain safe for all the families, visitors and business owners in our area. I look forward to seeing the I-95/I-295 North Interchange project’s successful completion.”
FDOT will host a construction open house for the project November 10, 2016 at the Oceanway Assembly of God from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Interested parties can meet with project engineers and representatives from the department to learn more, answer questions and review plan details.
