Jacksonville native Rev. Frederick Newbill was recently appointed by Mayor Lenny Curry to serve on the JEA Board of Directors. Newbill fills the position vacated by Warren Jones who resigned last year to serve on the Duval County School Board.
“Frederick Newbill is a long-time leader in our community,” said Mayor Curry. “His passion for Jacksonville, along with his dedication to service demonstrate a strong commitment to the advancement of our city. I look forward to his service in this role.”
Newbill is pastor of First Timothy Baptist Church and president of F & P Investments of Jacksonville, Inc. He has served as president of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Duval and Adjacent Counties, president of Union Saint James Association Congress of Christian Education, chairperson for the Congress of National Black Churches and secretary of the local One Church/One Child organization. He has also served in the United States Navy.
Newbill has a passion for community and civic development, as evidenced by his service on the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce and Jacksonville Housing Authority Board of Directors, and the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission.
A graduate of Stetson University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree, Newbill also holds a Master’s degree from Luther Rice Seminary, and a Doctorate of Divinity Degree from Saint Thomas Christian College.
