Jacksonville Small and Emerging Business Vendor Spotlight

September 15, 2023

Meet Shawna Newman Yazzie, President and Founder of The NDN Companies! Mrs. Yazzie’s business has been JSEB certified for several years. Please read about her business and experience in the Jacksonville Small and Emerging Business Program (JSEB).

Shawna Newman YazzieBusiness Bio: The NDN Companies is a Small Business Administration (SBA), a Certified Woman Owned 8(a), Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), and Jacksonville Small and Emerging Business (JSEB) firm. NDN provides a full range of environmental consulting services including, but not limited to, site assessments, remediation/restoration, natural resources/National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) cultural/archeological resources, tribal consultation, pollution prevention, hazardous materials/waste management, miscellaneous sustainment projects, and environmental management systems. NDN is currently      providing or has provided consulting services to state and local agencies  including the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), the St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD), City of Jacksonville (COJ), Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA), Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA), Duval County Public Schools (DCPS), St. Johns County, Tribal Communities, and several private/commercial clients. In addition, we have supported several federal and/or Department of Defense (DoD) entities.

JSEB Vendor experience: NDN became a JSEB vendor in 2018. The JSEB certification has granted NDN the opportunity to provide our services as a subcontractor to large businesses on multiple projects and/or contracts that we, as a prime   contractor, would not have been qualified for. When the COJ solicitations have a JSEB vendor requirement, larger companies are encouraged to team with JSEB vendors, therefore, presenting an opportunity for small business to form relationships with both COJ project managers and potential teaming partners, which has contributed to NDN’s growth. Even with our rapid growth, NDN has stayed true to our original core values: Family, Culture, Reliability, Integrity, and Transparency. These core values are regularly exercised with clients and the NDN team alike. Our core values contributed to NDN ranking among the top ten fastest growing companies in Northeast Florida in both 2021 and 2022. NDN was also selected as one of the Best Places to Work in 2022.

Goal or achievement reached in business: A recent goal of Mrs. Yazzie was to focus on growing NDN’s Native American consultation and cultural resource division. Due to her efforts, she was instrumental in obtaining grant funding to conduct STEM outreach within several Native communities across the United States. She recently received an award from the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) National for her contribution to Native American STEM Education.

On a local level, NDN is committed to serving the Jacksonville and Northeast Florida community. We have volunteered our time and resources to local non-profits such as Rethreaded, North Florida Land Trust, Florida Governor’s Council on Indian Affairs, American Red Cross, Jacksonville Beach Cleanup, SAME Summer Camps and Multiple Posts, STEM Camps, Jacksonville Museum of Science and History (MOSH), the Jacksonville Humane Society, and provided support to our local armed forces/veterans.
