Downtown Investment Authority Abandons Development of Regional Impact, Simplifying Regulatory Procedures for Development and Redevelopment in Downtown Jacksonville

The Downtown Investment Authority (DIA) commissioned CHW Professional Consultants, Acuity Design Group and Lewis, Longman & Walker, PA in September of 2019 to abandon the Downtown Regional Impact (DRI), develop methodology to preserve vested development rights and remove antiquated regulatory processes from Downtown. A little over one year and a lot of hard work later, Jacksonville City Council approved legislation that officially abandons the DRI, paving the way for a more streamlined approach to Downtown development.

Downtown Investment Authority Uses Meter Rates to Help Foster Restaurant and Retail Growth and Deter All-Day Use of On-Street Spaces

The City of Jacksonville’s Downtown Investment Authority (“DIA”) Board voted unanimously to pass a resolution adjusting on-street parking rates as recommended by the 2019 Downtown Parking Strategy and Implementation Plan prepared by Tim Haahs and Associates (“Haahs”). The Plan recommends the elimination of on-street parking credit card transactions below $1.00 and the implementation of an on-street parking rate of at least $2.00 per hour. The rate increases approved today by the DIA Board are in line with the Haahs recommendations while also remaining sensitive to the Jacksonville market. 

Downtown Investment Authority Issues Request for Proposal for Design of Former Jacksonville Landing Site, Now Riverfront Plaza

The City of Jacksonville’s Downtown Investment Authority (DIA) released a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the selection of qualified design firms and their consultants, who will then participate in a design competition for the development of a vibrant and iconic public space on the premier waterfront site in Downtown Jacksonville now dubbed Riverfront Plaza, formerly The Jacksonville Landing. The competition will include presentations at a public workshop and will result in the selection of one team to complete the design. The DIA understands the magnitude and importance of this site and as such, the aesthetic, functional and programmatic design of the public space and the integration of public art to create a recognizable symbol of Downtown Jacksonville are paramount.
 

New Public Awareness Campaign Warns Teens That "Vaping Can Get Ugly"

The City of Jacksonville and Daily’s have launched a yearlong public awareness campaign aimed at eliminating e-cigarette use and vaping among teenagers. The “Vaping Gets Ugly” campaign challenges teens to take a closer look at the ingredients in vaping products and the harmful side effects caused by inhaling them.

City Converting Two COVID-19 Testing Facilities to Vaccination Sites, Locations Will Activate Monday

Operations at two senior centers will transition from COVID-19 testing to vaccine distribution starting Monday, Jan. 11. The vaccination sites at Mandarin Senior Center (3848 Hartley Road – 32257) and Lane Wiley Senior Center (6710 Wiley Road – 32210) will run Monday – Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. In accordance with State priorities, at this time the vaccine will only be available to Duval County residents who are 65 years of age or older, frontline medical workers or first responders.

City's Solid Waste Division Encouraging Residents to Safely Dispose of Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Waste at Collection Event

With a focus on addressing blight, the City of Jacksonville offers citizens opportunities and events that promote appropriate disposal of waste and other debris. This effort includes the Solid Waste Division’s Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and Electronic Waste (e-waste) Mobile Collection events where residents can take items, like chemicals and small appliances, to locations throughout the city to be properly discarded.
