The City of Jacksonville’s Renew Jax initiative will host a Community Empowerment Event at Eureka Gardens Apartments on Saturday, Feb. 7.  Community resource providers will be on site to offer healthcare sign-ups, youth program registration, financial literacy and tax preparation information, and much more.

Following Mayor Brown’s recent creation of the Community Wealth Building Task Force, the group will hold its kickoff meeting to outline its objectives.  The goal of the group is to create new jobs, expand business opportunities and reduce health and wealth disparities, with a focus on Northwest Jacksonville.

The Keep Jacksonville Beautiful Commission (KJB) will host its fifth educational fundraising event to honor St. Johns Riverkeeper Executive Director Jimmy Orth for his conservation and beautification advocacy. The event will also recognize site captains, sponsors, volunteers, partners and organizations for their efforts to clean up and beautify Jacksonville during KJB events in 2014.

Schlakman, J.D. will share his experiences as a member of a U.S. Delegation that traveled to Geneva to speak before the United Nations Human Rights Commission.
