Mayor John Peyton announced today that while the national economic downturn has negatively affected the city's revenue streams that support infrastructure investments, the City of Jacksonville plans to continue moving forward with $100 million in new roadway construction projects. This investment will come in addition to the approximately $250 million in Better Jacksonville Plan roadway projects that are currently under construction or in design.

Mayor John Peyton issued an urgent call to action for Jacksonville residents today. Standing inside the food storage facility at Second Harvest Food Bank of North Florida, Mayor Peyton used the shelves with dwindling supplies to illustrate his growing concern about increasing demand for assistance for services from area non-profits as reserves of cash, food and supplies are decreasing.

Mayor John Peyton has appointed Scott Trebatoski as chief of the city's Animal Care and Control division. Trebatoski's appointment is subject to confirmation from the Jacksonville City Council, however, he will assume the role as interim head of the division beginning Monday, Nov. 24.

Mayor John Peyton proclaimed Friday, Nov.14, as “Small Business Appreciation Day” in Jacksonville. Following his speech at the 2nd Annual America's Small Business-State of the Sector Summit, the mayor visited two local small businesses: CDH Home Care, Inc. and Ohmega Group, LLC.

Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton and City Council President Ronnie Fussell today discussed the continued progress being made toward implementation of The Jacksonville Journey program, a historic investment in public safety approved by the City Council as part of the fiscal year 2008-2009 budget. The most comprehensive public safety program in the city's history, The Jacksonville Journey focuses on three areas key to improving public safety in Jacksonville: prevention, intervention and enforcement.

Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton has appointed Herschel Vinyard, Jr. to the Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) Board of Directors and Helen Rowan to the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission (JEDC). Both appointments are subject to confirmation by the Jacksonville City Council.
