City Council Officer Installation Ceremony

The Jacksonville City Council will meet in Council Chambers today at 4 p.m. for the installation of the Honorable William I. Gulliford, Jr., as the 2013-2014 Council President, and the Honorable Clay Yarborough, as the 2013-2014 Council Vice President. In accordance with Council Rules the positions will become effective July 1, 2013.

The event is free and open to the public at City Hall - St. James, 117 W. Duval St.

Job Announcement: Independent Legislative Counsel – Jacksonville City Council

In accordance with Sec. 7.201 of the City Charter and Ordinance 2013-367-E, the City Council desires to hire Independent Legislative Counsel. The engagement the law firm will be interviewed by the City Council Executive Committee and confirmed by the full City Council. The Legislative Counsel will report directly to the City Council. The Legislative Counsel will advise the City Council on legislative matters as the Council directs and will supplement, not replace, services provided by the Office of General Counsel.

Closing Date – Friday, June 14, 2013. Allocated Appropriation: $75,000.

320 High-Wage Jobs


Mayor Alvin Brown and JAXUSA Partnership, a division of the JAX Chamber, announced today that Bank of America, Energy Intelligence Worldwide Corp. (EIWC) and Total Quality Logistics LLC are each proposing major expansions in Jacksonville. Combined, the companies’ projects are projected to create 320 new high-wage jobs with an average annual salary of more than $50,000 and approximately $14 million in capital investment in Jacksonville.

Hurricane season starts Saturday, but the public should prepare now for any emergency.

Proper planning can help people have the right plan in place to respond and recover from emergencies – not just storms, but fires, floods and other hazards. Mayor Alvin Brown and leaders of the American Red Cross of Northeast Florida and Duval County Emergency Management are providing resources to assist residents and business owners with precautions in 2013.
