Development of the subdivision began in 1947, with the streets named after well-known birds. The residents began actively seeking the creation of a park in the early 1970’s. At community meetings sponsored by the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in 1975, the residents voted for a neighborhood park, and HUD purchased the land the following year. Title was vested in the City, under control of the Dept. of Recreation and Public Affairs. Led by Reba Hensley, the residents formed a neighborhood association in 1985 to receive a HUD grant for the construction of a picnic shelter at the site. In 2002, the City completed an improvement project at the park, which contains a nice canopy of trees that beautify the grounds. Also, in the park is a basketball goal, softball field and playground.
