Mayor Brown's Interfaith Breakfast

Mayor Alvin Brown will host Mayor Brown’s Interfaith Breakfast on May 20 at the Prime Osborn Convention Center. The breakfast, featuring Bishop T. D. Jakes of The Potter’s House of Dallas, will focus on the theme "Faith, Family and Friends." The event will explore ways to build community partnerships that will improve education and reduce crime. During the event, Mayor Brown will launch initiatives focusing on mentoring local youth, as well as crime prevention and intervention.

Free Veteran Career Counseling Sessions

The City of Jacksonville’s Military Affairs, Veteran and Disabled Services (MAVDS) department will host free career and employment counseling seminars for veterans and active duty military within one year of transition, as part of the City’s commitment to assisting veterans in securing employment. The session will be provided by Incepture, Inc., a leading staffing and managed solutions company in Jacksonville and a member of the City of Jacksonville/Jacksonville Military Veterans Coalition (JMVC) “Jobs for Vets” initiative.

First Saturday Animal Adoption Event

Animal Care and Protective Services (ACPS), along with Friends of Jacksonville Animals (FOJA), will host a day-long adoption festival on Saturday, May 4. The event is part of the shelter’s monthly, first Saturday adoption events, at the shelter facility from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22. The City of Jacksonville’s Environmental Protection Board (EPB) will acknowledge and celebrate the day on Saturday, April 20 during the 23 Annual Earth Day Festival and Ecology Fair at The Jacksonville Landing.

Earth Day Downtown Cleanup

*Volunteers are asked to gather at the front steps off Independent Drive promptly at 8 a.m. for sign-in.

The city’s Keep Jacksonville Beautiful (KJB) Commission, along with Downtown Vision, Inc. and the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront, are organizing the first Earth Day Downtown Cleanup. Residents and volunteers, along with support from local businesses, will pick up litter in the area bordered by Liberty, Water, Jefferson and Church streets. Gloves, bags and other cleanup supplies will be provided by KJB.
