District 8 Press Conference Discussing Senseless Killings on Jacksonville's Northside

Jacksonville, FL, January 6, 2020 – One man is dead and another is in critical condition after an officer-involved shooting following an attempted traffic stop Sunday night in Northwest Jacksonville.   This is the first police-involved shooting of the new year.

Council Member Ju’Coby Pittman is taking a stand to address the rise in murders happening in northwest Jacksonville.   This was the first officer-involved shooting of 2020, and according to JSO records there were 11 police-involved shootings last year, the most recent one being the week before Christmas.

Duval County has the highest murder rate in the state, and the problem is only getting worse.  Council Member Ju’Coby Pittman is looking to implement an accountability strategy with both short-term and long-term results to help decrease the amount on crime in District 8 and throughout northwest Jacksonville.

Job Fair for Displaced Employees of Simulated Gambling Establishments

October 21, 2019 – More than 40 businesses and service providers are participating in this job fair for displaced employees of simulated gambling establishments. (Participants listed at end of press release.) The job fair is Thursday, October 24, 2019 between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The event will be held at Emmett Reed Community Center located at 1093 West 6th Street, Jacksonville, FL 32209. While this job fair is designed to assist those affected by the closing of these establishments, this job fair is open to the public.
