Workforce Recovery Training Program
What in-demand training is offered by the Workforce Recovery Training Program?
The WRTP provides industry training that is geared towards entry-level employment in construction.
- CORE: Introduction to Basic Construction Skills – nationally recognized certificate from the National Center of Construction Education and Research (NCCER).
- OSHA 30: This US government safety certificate training satisfies OSHA requirements;
- Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER): This US government hazard recognition certificate training satisfies 29CRI1910.120 requirements; and
- Job Readiness Skills training
Am I eligible for tuition assistance through the WRTP?
You may be eligible for tuition assistance if you are:
- 18 years old or over; and
- Authorized to work in the United States
Please note that preference is given to applicants who meet low- and moderate-income criteria.
What is the goal of the WRTP?
On September 10, 2017, Hurricane Irma made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 storm. Rebuilding after the storm was hindered in Duval County by a lack of skilled construction workers. The labor shortage prolonged our community’s recovery from Hurricane Irma, taking months for homes, businesses and critical infrastructure to be fully repaired. The goal of this program is to provide training in the construction trades, creating a workforce that's ready to tackle Northeast Florida's fast-paced growth and help our community be better prepared for future disaster recovery efforts.
