Do you know your flood risk? Local and County officials are hosting a series of Flood Risk Open Houses to provide the Duval County general public with an opportunity to learn more about newly updated flood maps, known as Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs). Both Duval County and community officials, as well as FEMA and FL DEM Floodplain Management Office representatives, will be on hand to answer questions about the updated maps, the mapping process, flood risk, and flood insurance. Come any time between the hours indicated below—no appointment necessary. Information about disaster-related recovery efforts and outstanding insurance claims will not be available at this event.

Gov. Scott: Jacksonville Area Added Nearly 23,000 Jobs Over the Year

Governor Rick Scott announced today that the Jacksonville area added 22,800 new private-sector jobs in 2016. The area’s unemployment rate was 4.4 percent in December, dropping by 0.1 percentage point in the last year. Florida businesses created 237,300 private-sector jobs across the state during 2016, bringing the total number of jobs created since December 2010 to 1,262,100 jobs.

Jacksonville Native Selected to Serve on JEA Board

 Jacksonville native Rev. Frederick Newbill was recently appointed by Mayor Lenny Curry to serve on the JEA Board of Directors. Newbill fills the position vacated by Warren Jones who resigned last year to serve on the Duval County School Board.

Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry and Formativ Health today announced the company will lease 65,000 square feet of office space and hire up to 500 employees for a new Patient Access Services Center.

Gov. Scott: Jacksonville Area Added More Than 24,000 Jobs Over the Year

Governor Rick Scott announced today that the Jacksonville area added 24,100 new private-sector jobs over the year in November. The area’s unemployment rate was 4.7 percent in November, a decline of 0.1 percentage point in the last year. Florida businesses created 31,600 private-sector jobs across the state during November 2016, bringing the total number of jobs created since December 2010 to 1,266,900 jobs.
