City Council President Webb Appoints Ad Hoc Committee to Research Budget Savings Ideas

March 14, 2011
Jacksonville City Council President Jack Webb today announced the appointment of an Ad Hoc Committee for FY11-12 Budget Savings Review.  The three member committee comprised of Council members Stephen C. Joost, Chair, William H. Bishop and Warren A. Jones was tasked with preparing a set of recommendations for possible budget saving strategies to be considered by the Mayor and Finance Committee during the upcoming budget preparation process.

This committee will work hand in hand with the Mayor’s staff to analyze potential areas for budget savings and to prepare a set of recommendations to help guide the development of next year’s budget. “The upcoming budget promises to be one of the most difficult in the history of the consolidated government, and the City Council will need to devote considerable time and creative thought to producing the best possible outcome” said Mr. Webb.  “Since there will be some turnover on the City Council and a new Finance Committee will be in place come the first of July, it will be prudent for the Council to take advantage of existing experience and knowledge and to get the budget consideration process started as early as possible so that the next Finance Committee will have some solid preparatory work with which to begin its deliberations.”

The committee will be charged to provide a report to the Council President on its findings and recommendations by June 1, 2011.
