Locally-Headquartered Company Considering $300 Million Expansion

Proposed Project Would Create 100 New Jobs

Legislation being filed today by Mayor Alvin Brown could lead to a facility expansion for Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc. (JJVC) at its worldwide headquarters in Jacksonville. This extremely competitive opportunity would continue Jacksonville’s momentum as the go-to city for advanced manufacturing.

If the legislation is approved by City Council, Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, also known locally as VISTAKON®, would add an additional 100 high-wage employees to its local workforce and invest $300 million into its Jacksonville contact lens manufacturing facility.

Report Finds Regional Companies That Export Grow Dramatically Faster

Today, the Jacksonville/Northeast Florida Metropolitan Region released an export market assessment, a critical step in the development of a regional export strategy. This strategy is part of JAX/Northeast Florida’s participation in the Global Cities Initiative, a joint project of the Brookings Institution and JPMorgan Chase. Mayor Alvin Brown formed the Metro Jacksonville Global Cities team in 2013 after Jacksonville was selected as one of eight metro areas to join the new export exchange network.  The market assessment evaluates the region’s current export economy and its potential for growth.

Fortune 500 Company Finalizing Plans for Jacksonville Expansion

Sunshine Health, a subsidiary of Fortune 500 health care company Centene Corporation, is considering expanding its presence in Jacksonville.

Sunshine Health, located on Jacksonville’s Southside, currently employs 107 people in Jacksonville and is working with city leaders on growing its local offices. A proposal to be filed with the Jacksonville City Council would add 125 new employees and invest $900,000 into the local economy. The expansion is contingent on City Council approval.

Mayor Alvin Brown and JAXUSA Partnership, a division of the JAX Chamber, announced today that Bank of America, Energy Intelligence Worldwide Corp. (EIWC) and Total Quality Logistics LLC are each proposing major expansions in Jacksonville. Combined, the companies’ projects are projected to create 320 new high-wage jobs with an average annual salary of more than $50,000 and approximately $14 million in capital investment in Jacksonville.
