The Community and Senior Center Services Program administers facilities, programs, activities and services that support the successful living and aging of Jacksonville residents. Cultural, educational and social activities at our 19 centers are organized for and by citizens 60 years of age and over.
Several locations have weekly dances with live bands. Centers are available to the public for meetings, conferences, dinners, receptions and other private functions. Currently, several non-profit agencies use available office space.
Services offered for persons 60 years of age and over at our Community and Senior Centers include:
Nutritious Meals
Every Monday through Friday, 19 of our centers offer hot, nutritionally balanced, midday meals, which meet at least one-third of the current daily Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA).

Sunshine Pass
The Sunshine Pass is a multiple use pass printed at the Mary Singleton Senior Center at 150 East 1st Street. This pass is available for seniors 60+ living in Duval County. The pass can be used as a transit pass for a free ride on the JTA buses or for a reduced fee to ride the people mover. The pass can also be used as a library card after a visit to any City library location to have the card activated. The third use for the pass is to track services such as meals received by seniors who are registered members at the City Senior Centers.

Counseling
Counseling and guidance for health, social service and personal problems.
Health Education
Health, nutrition, vocational improvement and personal enrichment.
Medical Escort
Limited personal accompaniment to and from services.
Health Support
Identifying the need for necessary medical treatment, as well as preventive, emergency and health maintenance services.
Information
Response to inquiries regarding resources and/or available services, and
Referral
Guidance, contact and follow up as needed to a service or resource to alleviate a problem.
Outreach
Active effort to reach new target group individuals with one-to-one contact and to encourage use of available services.
Recreation
Participation in, or attendance at, planned leisure events and activities.
Shopping Assistance
Limited assistance with grocery shopping through senior centers.
Cultural Activities
The centers offer a variety of activities from lectures to games. Plays, musicals, classes in ceramics, painting, crafts, board games, bridge, bingo and mahjongg are scheduled regularly. Weekly shopping trips and occasional field trips are arranged. Many centers have small libraries. Evening dances are held weekly at Arlington, Beaches, Mandarin and the Singleton Senior Centers.
Computer Classes
Many centers offer basic computer classes to help individuals understand functions and features of a computer. For more information call the center nearest you.
Homemaker Services
Light housekeeping services are available for functionally impaired elderly persons 60 years of age and over to remain in their homes to prevent or delay institutionalization and lessen the burden of impairment or chronic illness. Call (904) 630-0646.
Lightbearers Award
Awards are presented annually by the Singleton Senior Center Advisory Board to persons 60 years or older who demonstrate the following qualities: "a role model and an inspiration to all, lives life as a journey, is open to life's challenges, and is optimistic and enthusiastic."
Transportation
Transportation is available Monday through Friday for trips to and from Centers. Call the Senior Services Transportation Coordinator at 630-0801 or the center nearest you.
The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) offers free transit service to persons 60 years and older with a Transit Identification Card, available at the Mary L. Singleton Senior Center. Call (904) 630-0995.
Advisory Councils
Advisory Boards and Site Councils make recommendations and provide support to Community and Senior Centers and the Senior Services Nutrition Program. Center customers as well as volunteers from the community at large are invited to serve on the advisory councils. Call the nearest center for more information.
Donations and Fees
While there are no charges for many of the programs and activities, voluntary donations are encouraged and welcomed in accordance with the Older Americans Act. Nominal fees may be charged for some classes and for certain uses of the facilities.

Sponsorship and funding is provided by ElderSource, the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, U.S. Government Older Americans Act of 1965 as amended with matching funds from the City of Jacksonville, Community Services Department, Adult Services Division. Additional capital improvement funds provided by Community Development Block Grants.
