Michael Corrigan and the Corrigan family have a long history in the community that Michael now represents. He was elected to the City Council representing District 14 in 2003, re-elected in 2007, and served as Council President for the 2006-2007 Council Year. He is currently a member of the City Council Rules Committee and the Public Health and Safety Committee.
Michael was in the Class XXVI of Leadership Florida and is presently a member of Leadership Florida's Northeast Regional Council. He is also a 1997 graduate of Leadership Jacksonville. He is currently serving as Chairman of the "1000 In 1000" initiative working to move 1000 people out of poverty in 1000 days, Chair of the Florida First Coast Workforce Development Consortium (FCWD), member of the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization (TPO), member of the Tourist Development Council (TDC), Tri-Chairman of the First Coast Manufacturing Association (FCMA), and member of St. Vincent's de Paul Council on Health Systems.
For over a quarter of a century, Michael has helped build his family's business, Nu-Trend Plastics. His company manufactures plastic packaging for the bakery, airline, seafood and candy industries. Michael's first position in the company was digging the foundation that his manufacturing facility is built upon. He is now the president of the company, so Michael has literally worked his way from the ground up.
Michael also has a long history of involvement with and commitment to public work and community service. He is proud to have served as past chairman of great organizations such as the Rotary Club of West Jacksonville, Riverside Avondale Preservation and Big Brothers and Big Sisters. During his tenure as City Council President, he launched a major initiative promoting mentoring in our community which led to him being named the Delores Kesler Community Mentor Award winner at the 2008 TELEmachus awards ceremony.
Michael is a graduate of Bishop Kenny High School, earned his AA degree from Florida Junior College (now Florida State College) and attended the University of North Florida. He is married to Edna DeAngelis Corrigan and they have three children: Chelsea, Emily and Connor. The Corrigan's are active members of St. Matthew's Catholic Church.
